 Defensive and Offensive Lineman

(I will be presenting the priorities of Defensive and Offensive Lineman)

First: Defensive Lineman

The priority for the defensive lineman is to defend the run, sack the quarterback, and cover players occasionally. Typically the edge players (left and right of the 2 defensive linemen, cover occasionally and try to defend the pass but can interfere in the run game as well. (ex. Leonard Floyd, AJ Epenesa) The actual position defensive line mainly stops the run but also sacks the passer. (ex. Ed Oliver)


Second: Offensive Lineman

Next, this is the position that lines up opposite the defensive lineman. They try not to allow the defensive lineman to rush the passer, but also block the run and allow the running back to run through their "gap" or holes." These gaps appear by blocking the defensive lineman a certain way like maybe the "OG", offensive guard, and the "OT" blocks to the right, the gap would be right in between the center and the guard.

  Linebackers and CBs                           (I will be presenting the priorities of Defensive and Offensive Lineman) First: Linebackers This position is a very difficult one just like cornerback. The main job of a linebacker is to stop the run and defend the pass, so they have to be capable of doing both. They are typically bigger and stronger guys, so when they have to cover tight ends, wide receivers, and running backs, they have to match their speed, making this a very complex position. (Ex. Terrell Bernard, Matt Milano) Second: Cornerbacks Some will say this is the hardest position besides quarterback or even harder than quarterback. Their job is to cover the wide receiver, sometimes tight ends, or even running back. They mustn't allow a completion, but they also can help in the run, if their other teammates aren't able to. This puts a lot of pressure on them, having to cover receivers and stop the run, they can be heroes or they can fail.
